2014 Sydney Eid Festival

The Muslim Women’s Welfare of Australia was honoured to participate in the nationally renowned Multicultural Sydney Eid Festival, which was celebrated over 2 days on the 2nd and 3rd of August.

The festival, which has become synonymous with family fun and enjoyment, was held at Paul Keating Park in Bankstown. The event exhibited a colourful plethora of attendees from a variety of cultural backgrounds, all displaying their joy being amongst families and friends.

Thousands of people attended the celebration, which saw many community leaders and politicians delivering congratulatory messages to the Islamic community after successfully completing the month of Ramadan. Leaders also expressed their deep sadness to the suffering experienced by of the citizens of Gaza and sent their well wishes to them on this special occasion.

The President of the Muslim Women’s Welfare of Australia (MWWA), Mrs Faten El Dana OAM, also took the opportunity to encourage the Muslim community to continue its growth by holding one another hand in hand. Mrs El Dana OAM said: “We look forward to continuing our active involvement and participation in these important community events and activities to ultimately fulfil our mission of empowering Muslim women, through assisting effective participation within the community.”

She then called upon the audience not to  forget the less fortunate Brothers and Sisters in other parts of the world that are suffering from calamities and hardships, especially those in Iraq, Syria, and Palestine.

Make long, sincere and deep Du^aa’ to increase their strength & heal the wounds of the injured”, Mrs El Dana said.

The event was also enjoyed by the mass crows of children who expressed their happiness and joy through live to air interviews broadcasted on the Muslim Community Radio.

The festival ended in a vibrant display of fireworks, which befitted the exciting energy and cheerful liveliness of the crowd.
